New Scientist and Carbon Trust talk clean

These two have teamed up to bring a blog-style news page about ‘clean-tech’, that is, technology that’s good for the planet. Well, if you believe the hype, maybe it is! Maybe.

The article about smart street lamps got me thinking – what’s the energy required to run the computerised, microwave-linked control system? Surely many of the problems they briefly mention about today’s street lights and their ’19th century’ system can be solved with better array design and minor updates in automation? Why build a light-net?
